F3 compressed carry: the medal boats' opening-series score is halved before the medal races add to it, and the compression changes the winner

ILCA 7 2026 — World Championship, Dun Laoghaire IRL · F3 · SI (reference-docs:events/ilca7-worlds-2026/SI-with-Amendment-2.md)

2 qualifying fleets · → Gold/Silver · discards: 1 discard from race 3. · medal race ×1
The 2026 ILCA 7 Worlds sail a Qualification series (a Preliminary series
reassigned nightly, then an Elimination series in Gold/Silver/Bronze) and
then a Final series of two races for the top ten. Two clauses make it a
different beast from the 2024 medal race of fixture 03:

  18.7.2 The overall event score for a boat qualified to the Final series
          will be the total of her adjusted Qualification series score and
          her Final series score. The Final series races shall not be
          excluded.
  18.7.3 Prior the start of the Final series, the Qualification series
          scores are divided by 2 (two), rounded to the nearest whole
          number (0.5 rounded upward).

So the Final series races score x1 — they are not doubled — and what they
are added to is a *compressed* score. That is the point of the format: it
pulls the leaders together so the last two races can still decide the
championship.

Here it decides it. Going into the medal races y1 leads b2 by 2 points
(4 to 6). Halved, that lead is 1 (2 to 3). b2 then beats y1 in both medal
races, gaining 1 point each time, and wins the championship by a point.
Score the same regatta without the compression and the two finish level on
8 — the halving is not cosmetic.

Read the medal boats' rows left to right: their Q and F cells are greyed
and out of the total (they have been replaced), the "Carried" column holds
the halved score, and the championship total is that number plus the two
medal races. Every other boat's row is an ordinary continuous line.

Note what the boat who missed the cut does here: nothing. The one more race
the SIs schedule for her (SI 7.7) has a fixture of its own — 17 — so this
one leaves it unsailed and keeps to the halving.

Verification by hand, with a DNC base of 3 boats + 1 = 4 in qualifying and
own-fleet + 1 = 4 in the final series, one discard from 3 races, at most
one of them from the final series:
  y1  Q 1,1,1  F 1,1   -> five 1s, discard one     = 4   -> halved 2
  b2  Q 2,1,1  F 2,2   -> worst 2 is Q1, discarded = 6   -> halved 3
  b1  Q 1,2,2  F 3,3   -> worst 3 is F1, discarded = 8   (not a medal boat)
then the medal races (base 3, x1): b2 1,1 -> 5;  y1 2,2 -> 6.
