The last-day extra race for the boats who did not qualify: scored from just below the Final series, with the qualified boats absent from it rather than scored DNC in it

ILCA 7 2026 — World Championship, Dun Laoghaire IRL · F3 · SI (reference-docs:events/ilca7-worlds-2026/SI-with-Amendment-4.md)

2 qualifying fleets · → Gold/Silver · discards: 1 discard from race 3. · medal race ×1
On the last day the 2026 ILCA 7 Worlds run two things at once:

  7.7 On the last day two Final series races are scheduled for the boats
       defined in SI 7.6. One additional Qualification series race is
       scheduled for the boats who did not qualify to the Final series.

  18.5.3 For those boats not assigned to the Final series and scheduled
          to an additional Qualification series race as detailed in SI
          7.7, the first finisher will be scored 11 points, second 12
          points and so on. [Amendment 3; Amendment 4 replaced "Medal
          series" with "Final series", which is what these SIs call the
          stage — wording, not scoring]

That race is an ordinary Elimination series race in every way but its
scoring: sailed by all three fleets, discardable, counting toward the
discard ladder — which is why the ladder in those SIs runs to twelve
races. What Amendment 3 changed is where its finishers start. They are
offset by the ten boats who left for the Final series, so the first of
them scores 11 rather than 1. Every fleet sails the race, but only the one
they left is offset: the offset is what accounts for the boats removed
from a fleet, and none were removed from Silver or Bronze.

Here F2 is that race: b1 sails it for Gold while y1 and b2, who qualified
for the Final series, do not. The point of the fixture is what their rows do
NOT contain — selecting the Final series boats does not delete them from
their Elimination fleet, so without care they read as Gold boats who failed
to start Gold's last race and collect a DNC at the fleet's score base. They
are simply elsewhere, and have no F2 cell at all. (A boat who really did
miss an Elimination race still gets an explicit DNC row from the scorer.)

Note what the offset does not touch: Gold's score base for F2 is still its
assigned size plus one — SI 18.5.2 counts boats assigned to the fleet, and
all three are still assigned to it. That is what lines the race up: its one
starter scores 3 against a base of 4, in the place the two who left would
have pushed her to. Silver, which lost nobody, scores from 1 against the
same base.

Hand check, DNC base 4 throughout, one discard from 3 races, at most one
from the final series, and a lone final race protected:
  y1  Q 1,1  F1 1        -> F1 is the lone final race so far; discard Q1 = 2 -> halved 1
  b2  Q 2,1  F1 2        -> same, discard Q1                                 = 3 -> halved 2
  b1  Q 1,2  F1 3  F2 3  -> two final races now, so F1's 3 is discardable    = 6
where b1's F2 is her place of 1 plus the offset of 2. Then the medal race
(base 3, x1): y1 1 -> 2;  b2 2 -> 4.
