A tie RRS A8 cannot break stays a tie: shared rank in the combined qualifying standings, with the count-back-broken ties alongside for contrast

ILCA 7 2026 — World Championship, Dun Laoghaire IRL · F3 · D11 · SI (reference-docs:events/ilca7-worlds-2026/SI-with-Amendment-4.md)

3 qualifying fleets · → Gold/Silver/Bronze · discards: 1 discard from race 3.
In the combined standings after Q1–Q3 of the 2026 ILCA 7 Worlds, two boats
in different qualifying fleets each held (47) 47 47 — a discarded DNC and
two counting DNCs at the largest-fleet-plus-one base. RRS A8.1 compares
their non-discarded scores equal (47 47 against 47 47) and the A8.2
count-back compares equal through every race, so nothing in Appendix A
separates them: the official standings publish them as joint 140th of 141.
The qualifying series scores under unmodified RRS A8 — the SI tie-break
clauses (18.7.4) touch only the medal boats.

Modelled as 3 fleets of 3 (real: 3 fleets of 47), 3 qualifying races, one
discard from 3 races (the real event's first ladder step). y3 and r3 never
race: three DNCs at 4 (largest fleet 3 + 1) each, identical lines A8 cannot
break — joint 8th, no 9th.

The other boats show the ties A8 *does* break, which must not share:

  b1 1,1,1 / r1 1,2,1 / y1 1,1,2 — all net 2, all A8.1-equal on
  non-discarded [1,1]; the A8.2 count-back (all scores, discards included)
orders them b1, r1, y1 on the last then next-to-last race.

  y2 2,2,1 / r2 2,1,2 — net 3, A8.1-equal on [1,2]; the last race (1 vs 2)
  puts y2 ahead.

`expected` verified against the engine.
